New Jersey has a new governor, and with the win of Democrat Philip D. Murray, 60, the Democrats now control both the legislative and executive branches in the Garden State.

Murphy now takes over as governor as the eight-year term of Chris Christie, who was once an optimistic candidate for the White House who lost favor with the public after Bridgegate.

Some of Murphy's campaign promises include raising the minimum wage to $15; standing up to President Trump on numerous issues and what he calls the "mean winds blowing at us from Washington", tax reforms and legalizing marijuana.

Update:

Looks like the two races for Governor in the U.S. today are both being won by Democrats, who are taking over both seats held by Republicans.

Virginia has already called their race for governor for Democrat Ralph Northam.

Numbers coming in now also seem to clearly show Democrat contender Phil Murray is going to be the next governor here in the Garden State.
