Join NJPAC teaching artist Wincey Terry in a reading of "Firebird," the award-winning children's book by Misty Copeland, on Saturday, February 17 at 2:00 pm in the Community Room of the West Caldwell Public Library, 30 Clinton Road. This family program is part of NJPAC's community outreach Books on the Move.

Misty Copeland made history as the first African-American principal dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre. In "Firebird," Copeland encourages a young ballet student, with brown skin like her own, by telling her that she too had to learn basic steps and how to be graceful when she was starting out. However, with practice and dedication, one day the little girl will also become a "firebird."

Young listeners will role play parts of the book and complete an arts and crafts activity.

This program is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required. To sign-up, call the library at 973-226-5441. Along with registering for this program at the library, please visit njpac.org/community to RSVP. The first 25 families to do so, will receive a free copy of the book.
