Montclair Police Chief Todd M. Conforti received the Giblin Association Community Service Award for Public Safety at the organization’s 26th annual awards and charity breakfast held Sunday December 3 at Mayfair Farms in West Orange. Chief Conforti was recognized for his more than 22 years of service with the Montclair Police Department.

“I am truly honored and humbled to receive the Giblin Association Award for Public Safety,” said Chief Conforti. “I feel privileged to serve as the Township’s Police Chief, working with the outstanding men and women of the Montclair Police Department.”

Chief Conforti has held various positions in the Department. He served as a patrolman and a detective and original member of the Department’s Community Response Team. From 2002 to 2009 he oversaw the Narcotics Bureau as a Sergeant and Lieutenant Commander. In 2005 he was honored by the Knights of Columbus, receiving the Officer of the Year award.

Chief Conforti has participated in a wide range of law enforcement training, including the FBI’s National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. While at the Academy he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police, overseeing the Investigative Division. From 2012 until his promotion to Acting Chief in March of 2016, he supervised both the Investigative and Patrol divisions. He was sworn in as Chief of Police June 1, 2016.

Since his promotion, Chief Conforti has focused on developing better communications and relations between the police and the community. Some of the community partnership programs implemented in the last two years include the Junior Police Academy, the Citizens Police Academy, Coffee with a Cop, the Police Chaplain Program and the expansion of National Night Out.

Chief Conforti is a very active member of the community -- he is a longtime supporter of the Special Olympics and has participated in the annual law enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics more than a dozen times. The Chief has also served as an advisor to the Montclair Police Athletic League.

The Knights of Columbus honored Chief Conforti with the organization’s Officer of the Year Award in 2005.
