You don’t always know what topic astrophysicist Charles Liu will discuss when he addresses the Montclair Society of Engineers, but you can be sure that it will be interesting and the presentation will be fun. He appears regularly on TV, radio, and the Internet, where he presents topics as varied as time and the universe, sports physics and the similarity of human brains to bird brains. Before that he helped develop the Museum of Natural History Cosmic Pathway, a ramp representing all of time, starting with the Big Bang. Be sure to check him out on You Tube.

Dr.Liu also gives public lectures, teaches university–level astronomy classes, writes popular science books and articles, and creates courses for teachers. Together with co-authors Robert Irion and Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, he received the 2001 American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award for the book One Universe: At Home in the Cosmos. He is also the author of The Handy Astronomy Answer Book, now in its third edition. He is an astrophysics professor at the City University of New York’s College of Staten Island and an associate with the Hayden Planetarium and Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. His research focuses on colliding galaxies, quasars, and the star formation history of the universe

His past talks were a big hit with students and adults alike. As he likes to say "An hour's worth of really cool stuff is better than a semester's worth of not so cool stuff. The question is, what do you remember?"

Be sure to come early and have some coffee and dessert.
