Montclair Welcomes 3 New Police Officers

One Montclair police officer was promoted to full status and two were sworn in as probationary officers during a ceremony held Wednesday, November 2 in Municipal Council Chambers. Officer Scott W. Berry was sworn in to regular status. Matthew T. Graziosa and Sharif L. Webb were sworn in as probationary officers. Municipal Clerk Linda Wanat administered the Oath of Office.

Officer Scott W. Berry As a trainee, Officer Berry will rotate through different instructors and shifts while receiving daily standardized evaluations based on performance. The evaluations are periodically reviewed by the field training program supervisor. Progress is then assessed prior to the officer's completion of training and final assignment to the Patrol Division by the Chief of Police.

Probationary Officer Matthew T. Graziosa(Badge #279 ) is a graduate of the Essex County College Public Safety Academy Alternate Route program in 2017. He received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Essex County College in 2015. Officer Graziosa was employed as a Police Dispatcher for the West Caldwell Police Department prior to entering the Public Safety Academy.

Probationary Officer Sharif L. Webb (Badge #280) graduated from the Essex County College Public Safety Academy Alternate Route program in 2017. He received an Associate’s Degree in Communications from South Plains College and then went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree in journalism from the University of Kentucky.

The probationary officers will undergo a field training program in which they will be paired with specially-trained, experienced patrol officers or FTOs. The training curriculum covers a wide number of topics ranging from departmental operations, at-scene criminal investigations, and handling domestic violence incidents, to traffic enforcement and issues of homeland security.
