MPL ANNOUNCES INDIE AUTHOR DAY FOR LOCAL WRITERS AND BOOK LOVERS

Posted

Join Montclair Public Library (MPL) to celebrate local writing communities on October 14, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the main library auditorium. Indie Author Day, a nationwide event sponsored by BiblioBoard, is designed to bring local emerging writers together to meet and learn from each other.

The public is encouraged to attend and meet dozens of local aspiring authors, poets and graphic novelists, and to discover new talent. Local writers will be selling their materials on-site for visitors to pick up their next favorite book. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to create a tiny book with assistance by The Creativity Caravan, a local arts organization.

“Montclair and its surrounding towns have vibrant writing communities and avid book lovers.” said John Daquino, Adult Services Librarian at MPL and event organizer. “We are thrilled to provide a space where local emerging writers can connect with readers and each other.”

Below is the event schedule:

? 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Local author booths and miniature book-making with The Creativity Caravan, a Montclair-based arts organization.

? 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Intro to Book Publicity: How Authors Can Become Part of the News, Mike Onorato, Executive Director of Publicity at Smith Publicity. In this presentation, Mike will define and lay out how PR is different than advertising, how authors can become part of the news cycle (and what that looks like), what authors can do to increase media attention and buzz for their book, and the role of social media.
