As Congress remains lost in an ongoing philosophical and endless conversation about gun control and what to do about school & mass shootings, 4 states have banded together to take action.

New Jersey, New York, Conn., and R.I. have formed an alliance and announced to the world they will not be sitting still as mass shootings become the new normal in the U.S. Now, “States for Gun Safety” coalition will set the stage for other states to join to create tougher gun laws and controls.

A memo of understanding between the 4 states is being drafted, and N.Y. Gov. Cuomo said the governors have already agreed on the action plan.

New Multi-State Coalition Will Trace and Intercept Firearms to Stop Flow of Out-of-State Guns

Each of the 4 states will share information with one another via their extensive data bases, in order to know about and control information across state lines.

From gun sales to specific buyers and what they purchase, along with a strong push for manufacturers to produce new "smart guns" with safety features including tech that only allows the owner to fire them.

Nation's First Regional Gun Violence Research Consortium Will Conduct Studies to Better Inform Policy Makers

Did you know the federal government is prohibited from doing research into gun violence? But states are free to conduct research, and now, this new alliance will conduct studies to help stop more mass shootings.

As Gov. Cuomo noted, "I am not optimistic that the federal government is going to be responsible. Kids are showing more leadership than Congress."

Kudos to these four governors and their states for their action.

Updates to follow.
