The summer is the ideal time to bake a tasty fruit or cream pie. If you have a "special" recipe for your favorite pie then why not bake it and enter it in the "Summer Pie Baking Contest" on Tuesday, July 17 at 6:30 pm in the Gazebo at Crane Park in West Caldwell.

This contest will be a bake-off between residents of Caldwell, Roseland and West Caldwell. Contestants must be an adult and have a valid library card in Caldwell, Roseland or West Caldwell.

Any type of pie is acceptable such cherry, blueberry, peach, strawberry rhubarb, chocolate cream, coconut custard, lemon meringue, etc. However, all pies must be made from scratch, including the crust. No canned pie filling or pre-made crust will be accepted. Contestants must make two pies (both of the same type). One for the judges to sample and another one for the audience. Coolers with ice will be provided for pies that need refrigeration.

Pies will be accepted at the West Caldwell Library on Thursday, July 17 between 4:00 and 6:00 pm. The winners will be announced after judging and prizes and ribbons will be awarded.

Visit the Caldwell, Roseland or West Caldwell Public Libraries for an entry form (which is due Wednesday, July 11) and complete contest rules. You can also click on this link "pie baking contest" for the entry form and contest rules.

Following the contest, The Chanteurs, a vocal ensemble from the New Jersey Choral Society, will perform some Broadway show tunes and classics oldies in the Gazebo at Crane Park.
