Three Montclair Police Officers Receive Promotions

Three Montclair Police officers were promoted during a swearing-in ceremony held Friday, February 2 in Municipal Council Chambers. Sergeant Ronald Redmond was promoted to Lieutenant and officers John Timchak and Tamil Carandang were sworn in as sergeants. Municipal Clerk Linda Wanat administered the oath of office.

Ramil Carandang joined the Montclair Police Department (MPD) in 2005. He has served in the Patrol Division, specializing in crash investigations where he is recognized as an Accident Reconstructionist. Sgt. Carandang has been an active member of the Police Benevolent Association (PBA), serving on the executive board for the last eight years and as the vice president during the past year. He is very involved with PBA events that impact community relations such as the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Santa Toy Delivery and the Fishing Derby. Sgt. Carandang will continue to serve in the patrol division.

Sgt. John Timchak joined the MPD in 1994. He worked in the Traffic Bureau where he reviewed accident investigations and supervised the crossing guards. Sgt. Timchak also spent time in the Community Policing Bureau as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) officer, holding community meetings and working bike patrol. Sgt. Timchak is also huge supporter and participant in the Police Unity Tour which helps raise awareness for law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty. Sgt. Timchak will serve in the Patrol division.

Lt. Redmond has been with the MPD since 1998 and has served as a Ddetective in the Narcotics Bureau, a sergeant in the Detective Bureau, the Department’s Evidence Control Officer, and is currently assigned as Commander of the Records & Identification Bureau and Evidence Control Unit.
